EIFHYTEC is an independent French and European industrial start-up located in Strasbourg and Haguenau, in Northern Alsace (France). We are specialized in the development and industrialization of hydrogen infrastructure solutions for the energy transition. In particular, EIFHYTEC develops non-mechanical hydrogen compressors for green hydrogen transport and hydrogen filling stations. EIFHYTEC has launched an R&D programme aimed at optimising existing solutions and developing new products.
Description of the positionThe energy performance of tanks plays a major role in the efficiency and technical-economic viability of hydrogen compression. EIFHYTEC is looking for an engineering intern to study solutions for insulating and optimizing the energy performance of tanks used for hydrogen compression. The trainee will work in close collaboration with the engineering office to carry out his/her assignments. Duties will include:
– State of the art of existing solutions:- Materials
- Performance
- Costs
- Energy performance calculations
- Numerical simulations
- Identification of regulatory constraints
- Assessment of costs and service life
- Setting up the test protocol in the workshop
- Selection and ordering of required measuring instruments
- Construction of test bench
- Carry out the test in collaboration with the production manager and his team
- Evaluation of results
- Drafting of a test report
We are looking for a student with an engineering background, specializing in energy, thermodynamics or equivalent. The student must be in his/her final year of study and looking for an internship where he/she can apply his/her technical and cross-disciplinary skills. We are looking for a student who is passionate about energy transition issues in their entirety, but who is also capable of being rigorously and consistently involved in the technical development of high-tech components. The student must have a good knowledge of energetics (energy balances, heat transfer), and ideally master numerical simulation software (Star-CCM or equivalent). Knowledge of materials processing is an asset. He/she must be able to work autonomously and take the initiative in a small structure where the involvement of each individual is essential. Given the team’s European dimension, an excellent command of English is a must, and knowledge of German is highly desirable.

Description of the positionThe technological solutions developed by EIFHYTEC require the use of innovative metallic materials with properties adapted to hydrogen compression (mechanical strength, resistance to hydrogen, corrosion, thermal conduction, etc.). EIFHYTEC is looking for an engineering intern to contribute to the optimization of innovative materials, as well as to the creation of a test bench and a test campaign. The trainee will work in close collaboration with one of the engineers in the design office and the production manager.
The trainee’s tasks will include :
- Carrying out bibliographical studies on available innovative materials in relation to EIFHYTEC’s application constraints, as well as co-developing a materials database
- Drawing up material optimization proposals based on the bibliographic analysis.
- Design of a test bench: design, sizing, choice of components
- Analysis of regulatory framework and applicable safety rules
- Drawing up specifications, consulting suppliers and monitoring the production of samples
- Participation in test bench construction
- Conduct experiments on small-scale prototypes
- Data acquisition and technical-economic analyses
Type of contract: Internship contract
Location: Haguenau (France) Depinding on the progress of the student, a part of the activity may take place at a partner’s location, in south-west Germany.
Salary/gratification: ~950€/month
